2005 – Hurricane Katrina
An estimated 1,833 people died in the hurricane and the flooding that followed. Millions of people were left homeless along the Gulf Coast and in New Orleans. Hurricane Katrina caused approximately $161 billion in damage, and is the costliest hurricane on record.
2005 – Hurricane Rita
Rita reached a peak intensity of category 5 with sustained winds of 180 mph (155 knots) and a minimum pressure of 895 millibars (26.43 inches) at 10 PM CDT September 21st. This low pressure makes Rita the strongest hurricane every recorded in the Gulf of Mexico, and 4th strongest in the Atlantic Basin.
2020 – Hurricane Laura
With little change in strength, Laura made landfall at Cameron, Louisiana around 1 AM CDT August 27th, with sustained winds of 150 mph (130 knots) and a minimum central pressure of 939 millibars (27.73 inches).
2005 – Hurricane Katrina
Hurricane Delta was an Atlantic tropical cyclone in October 2020. The hurricane struck the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico. It later threatened east central Louisiana, western Mississippi, and Alabama and several coastal and low-lying areas were ordered to evacuate. Delta’s winds peaked near 145 miles an hour.
2021 – Hurricane Ida
Hurricane Ida was a deadly and extremely destructive Category 4 Atlantic hurricane in 2021 that became the second-most damaging and intense hurricane to make landfall in the U.S. state of Louisiana on record, behind Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
